Fascinated by the features of the face, human or sculpted, Carina Lacerda adds breasts to her pieces as a protest against male chauvinism she faced when started being a part of the atelier universe.
“I felt unimportant. They thought that, because I am a woman, I would not want to go to the forest to bring heavy wood, carve or sand. Those were activities that could hurt me, make me break a nail. Yet, they thought it was an ephemeral interest.”
Because the hardship in acquiring the quality raw materials the others used on the atelier, the artisan, as a bird of prey, started to take the wood left from the other artists and wood she could found discarded.
“To me, the trees are the most evolved beings on the planet. They make the gas exchange, give us their fruits and fresh cover. Have a soul. And some people can kill those beings. It is so sad to find so many remains of dead trees. I use then to honor and resignify life and nature.”
By insert breasts in Karuaras, the artist draws attention to the feminine power and the bravery to live life with an open heart, faithful to your dreams.
